The museum sector does not stand still and is developing, new locations open up, expositions are updated, so every tourist in Lviv will find something interesting for themselves.

Museum of Ukrainian History (Lviv Historical Museum)

Daily: 10 AM - 5:30 PM

You will have the opportunity to plunge into the past and see with your own eyes archaeological finds of ancient times, Trypillian ceramics, ancient clothes, Cossack household items of the XVI-XVII centuries, a collection of manuscripts and old prints, musical instruments of the XVII-XVIII centuries, foundry products (cannons, bells, lanterns, candlesticks), paintings and many other various exhibits. Have you ever seen a room organ, Cossack timpani or a unique 18th-century clock that showed not only the hours but also the seasons, changes in the phases of the moon, and days of the week? Lviv Museum of the History of Religion

Tuesday - Sunday: 10 AM - 6 PM

The exposition is housed in the cells of the former Dominican monastery and consists of various thematic sections that presents the worldview of world religions, the history and activities of church organizations traditional for our land. You can also go down into the dungeon, one of the most popular in the city of Lviv and included in the tour routes (*dungeon is open on Mondays).

Territory of Terror - memorial Museum of Totalitarian Regimes

Wednesday - Thursday: 10 AM - 6 PM

Friday - Sunday: 11 AM - 7 PM

The museum illustrates the tragic pages of the history of the mid-20th century. The exposition recreates prison barracks, a cattle wagon, exhibits of the German and Soviet totalitarian regimes, and a collection of Soviet monumental art. Due to audio recordings, you can hear eyewitness accounts of those difficult times.

Lychakiv Cemetery Museum

33 I. Mechnykova St. 

Daily: 9 AM - 6 PM

One of the largest and oldest European necropolises, an open-air museum with an area of 40 hectares. From the first years of its foundation, famous figures of culture, art, and science have found their eternal rest here. Such prominent figures as Ivan Franko, Stefan Banakh, Volodymyr Ivasiuk, Solomiia Krushelnytska, Markiyan Shashkevych, and many others was buried at Lychakiv Cemetery. There are also Ukrainian and Polish military memorials on the territory of Lychakiv Cemetery Museum.

Ancient Lviv Museum

An innovative interactive museum of Lviv's history from the 9th to the 18th centuries: multimedia exhibitions, 40 figures of prominent historical figures made of cyber-skin, 3D dioramas, unique exhibits from private collections, castle models that you won't see anywhere else, smells and sounds of historical eras that complement the exposition. The museum also offers educational tours, master classes and quests, making it ideal for both adults and the youngest tourists.

Lvivarnya

Thursday - Monday: 11 AM - 7 PM

The modern Lvivarnya museum complex includes more than 1000 exhibits about the history of brewing, interactive and game installations, and a ceiling made of beer barrels. Here you will have a great opportunity to learn a lot of interesting things about the history of brewing, the stages of beer brewing and beer traditions. For Lviv City Card holders, entrance tickets to the Lviv Brewery are free. Additionally, you can book informative tours with an experienced guide, and taste the history by ordering a tasting of the legendary Lviv beer.

Art and history:

Andrei Sheptytskyi National Museum in Lviv

20 Svobody Ave. 

Day off: Monday

Tuesday - Sunday: 10 AM - 5 PM

The National Museum is a treasure trove of Ukrainian sculpture and art. The museum's funds include more than 175 thousand items. Due to the martial law, the main exhibition is not available now, but there are additional artists exhibitions or art installations within the museum that are impressive.

Powder Tower - center of architecture, design and urbanism 

4 Pidvalna St. 

Day off: Monday

Tuesday-Sunday: 12 PM - 8 PM

This tower was part of the third line of defense of the city and is one of the few fortifications in Lviv that have survived till nowadays. It once served as a place to store gunpowder, hence its name. Today, the tower houses the Center for Architecture, Design and Urbanism. City Card holders can visit the permanent exhibition, which has been open since 2019, for free: you will see the historical area of Lviv reduced by 1000 times and learn the history of the city from its foundation to the present day using video mapping. The Powder Tower also often hosts various exhibitions and lectures (paid extra), and you can enjoy delicious coffee at the cafe "Bez nazwy" (without a name) -  (10% discount). Also, you can find two lions carved out of stone napping at the entrance to the tower.

State Museum of Natural History

Wednesday - Sunday: 11 AM - 6 PM

A museum that is definitely interesting for children, but adults will also learn a lot for themselves. Here you can see unique natural monuments of world importance, flora and fauna exhibits, a collection of minerals and even meteorites. The museum is interactive and equipped with multimedia technologies. There is also an Ice Age exhibition, where you can see a mammoth and a hairy rhinoceros.

The Secret Pharmacy interactive museum

1 Soborna Sq. 

Daily: 11 AM - 7 PM

You will visit an alchemical dungeon, see authentic pharmacy utensils and many different interesting pharmaceutical exhibits. The museum offers interactive excursions with experiments, and you can also buy "pills for happiness" and other interesting things in the shop with original souvenirs. By purchasing a Lviv City Card, you have the opportunity not only to visit the museum, but also to attend a guided tour - the registration is carried out every hour.

Museum of glass

2 Rynok Sq.

The museum is located in the dungeon of an old townhouse on Rynok Square and contains a collection of more than 350 exhibits. Here you can learn about the history of glass production in Ukraine, see a unique collection of products made from different types of this material, learn the secrets of glass making, and even complete a free quest. There are also many beautiful jewelry and original souvenirs that you can buy as a souvenir from Lviv.

Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life In Lviv named after Klymentii Sheptytskyi / Lviv skansen (Shevchenkivskyi Hai)

1 Chernecha Hora St.

Shevchenkivskyi Hai is an open-air museum with architectural monuments of the eighteenth and early twentieth centuries. Here you will see unique micro-villages that recreate the peculiarities of ethnographic regions or historical and ethnographic groups: Boikivshchyna, Lemkivshchyna, Hutsulshchyna, Bukovyna, Pokuttya, Podillia, Zakarpattia, and Lviv region. The Shevchenkivskyi Hai often hosts interesting exhibitions and offers the opportunity to take part in various folk crafts workshops. In addition, the skansen has its own petting zoo, where you can see sheep and goats grazing and wild ducks swimming on the pond.

Museums dedicated to famous personalities:

Solomiia Krushelnytska Memorial Museum

23 S. Krushelnytskoi St.

The authentic atmosphere of the famous singer's house, where original photographs, posters, concert programs, portraits, fragments of stage costumes, music books and personal belongings of the legendary artist are presented. Solomiia Krushelnytska was known all over the world, her repertoire includes more than 60 opera roles in eight languages; while abroad, Krushelnytska always emphasized that she was Ukrainian; she was an extremely talented, persistent and beautiful woman; Solomiia mastered horseback riding and drove a car herself, was a fan of sports and healthy eating. We recommend you additionally book a guided tour of the museum to learn even more about the legendary singer of the world stage.

The Olena Kulchytska Art and Memorial Museum

Olena Kulchytska was a painter, illustrator, graphic artist, master of decorative and applied arts, teacher, and public figure. The museum is located in Kulchytska's former apartment, which was also her creative studio. Unfortunately, due to russia's war against Ukraine, the museum's permanent exhibition, which presented paintings, graphics, and decorative and applied arts from the artist's oeuvre, is closed. However, you can visit additional exhibitions here that are also worth visiting.

Franko House (Lviv National Literary and Memorial Museum of Ivan Franko)

150-152 I. Franko St. 

Day off: Tuesday

Wednesday - Monday: 10 AM - 5 PM 

You will have the opportunity to visit the house where Ivan Franko lived and worked. The museum has preserved an authentic atmosphere and features memorial and literary expositions. Educational and outreach programs are held here, and you can book a classical or theatrical tour for an additional fee. Did you know that Franko wrote 6,000 works totaling more than 100 volumes; spoke 14 foreign languages; was the founder of a new fashion - he was the first to wear an embroidered shirt in combination with a European three-piece suit; loved fishing and mushroom picking, and was very fond of animals, so he had several dogs. The life story of Franko's genius has bright and sad pages - come to the museum and discover a lot about the legendary Franko, his creative heritage and  life path.
