Sledding, ice slides (hromaky), or snow tubing – one of the most popular winter activities in Lviv. As soon as there is enough snow, hills in all parks fill with eager individuals ready to enjoy the ride.

lviv.travel has compiled the best hills for sledding and more in Lviv and the surrounding region into one collection.

Top 10 Locations for Active Winter Recreation in Lviv

The best spots where you can speed down your sleds or tubes, eagerly waiting on the balconies of your apartments and in garages.

Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Central Park of Culture and Rest

51 Dmytra Vitovskoho Street

For amateur sledding, there are all the necessary conditions in the Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Central Park of Culture and Res, which is arguably the most suitable park for sledding and skiing in the city. On weekends, city residents come here with their families to have a fun time and enjoy sledding.

Ivan Franko Park

11-13 Solomiya Krushelnytska Street

A beloved leisure spot for Lviv residents in any weather, this is the first park in Lviv and the oldest municipal park in Ukraine. When snow blankets the alleys, lampposts, and benches during a snowstorm, the park transforms into a fairytale-like location. Sledding is possible in two areas here — on the hill leading to the Church of St. George and on the central alley. However, note that descending from the hill requires certain skills in steering sleds or ice slides, as the slope is steep with unexpected turns. For beginners and children, the central alley is more suitable, but the key is to be cautious and avoid creating "accidents" with locals strolling through the park, not knocking them off their feet.

Stryisky Park

A location with a concentration of sufficient slopes suitable for sledding. The hills here are gentle and small, making them ideal for rides with children, and are located around the lake area where, in the summer, both children and adults feed swans. Although they are not very long, the hills provide enough enjoyment for children, especially with the charming view of the snow-covered lake.

Pohulianka Park

Home to some of the most popular hills in the city, not only among children but also among adults. The considerable length of some of them allows for a much longer enjoyment of the descent compared to others. Nevertheless, it's important to exercise caution when sledding on park slopes and to avoid trees.

Hill near the Children's Hospital

A good option for sledding is the hill near the woods, not far from the Children's Hospital at 4 Pylypa Orlyka Street. However, there are also spots near the emergency hospital, but the descents there are not as long. Nevertheless, they are quite suitable for preschool or younger school-age children.

Pekarska Student Park

Locals with children, numerous students, and university attendees relax here daily. Near the Veterinary Medicine University, there is an old park—a beloved winter recreation spot for Lviv residents for sledding and skiing. Here, you can find many decent slopes that bring joy to both little athletes and adults.

Kaiserwald

The 'Ascension' Park, better known among locals as 'Kaiserwald,' is an ideal venue for enthusiasts of sledding, tobogganing, and skiing. What's noteworthy is that both amateurs and seasoned athletes enjoy spending time here. However, caution is advised due to the place's popularity. This park offers excellent hills for sledding and even ski trails for true professionals. Some locals also come here with snowboards, as nature has provided the park with a real 'ski resort' feel.

High Castle

The main landmark of Lviv in winter also offers sledding or skiing down its snow-covered slopes. Locals have long discovered the best spots for sledding, where enthusiasts of active recreation gather both on weekdays and weekends. The only downside: sledding down High Castle is one of the busiest places in the city, so beginners may prefer quieter locations, as this spot is often mentioned frequently online. They say you can find hills here to suit any taste, fear, and risk.

Ivan Paul II Park in Sykhiv

Another interesting place of more local character is located in Sykhiv, on Lisna Street, near the local lake. Every year, in snowy weather, it becomes quite lively throughout the entire Sykhiv neighborhood. In addition to the hill, which, by the way, is over 50 meters long, the park has plenty of locations for less active leisure. For example, to organize a barbecue gathering in warmer weather.

In general, there are plenty of places to go sledding in Lviv if the desire is there. For children, it's a great opportunity to disconnect from gadgets and spend more time outdoors, while for adults, it's a kind of ticket to childhood: speeding downhill, feeling the cold wind on your face, and the landings not always being soft - for a while, you can forget about the worries of today.
