Ukraine. Before and after.

Дата публікації

In the last month of the war, Russian troops killed more than a hundred children and wounded as many.

Vladimir Putin convinced the Russians and, most likely, even himself, that the population in Ukraine needs to be saved. That people here suffer from neo-Nazi groups and the same government. He assured that Ukrainian Nazis are killing people in the so-called LPR and DPR.

In order to "demilitarize and denationalize Ukraine", he introduced his troops and called it a special operation in the Donbas.

He began his supposedly noble mission. Let's look at the results?

KYIV

The first explosions woke up Kyiv citizens around 5 AM on February 24. Since then and to this day, residents of the city hide in basements, shelters, subways. Wherever, it is at least a little safer.

On the morning of the first day of the war, the enemy aimed at a residential building where ordinary civilians lived. A high-rise building on Lobanovskoho Street was destroyed.

Russian troops have a special tradition: for some reason, they like to destroy TV towers. The first such facility was destroyed in Kyiv, as a result of which 5 people died. The peak of cynicism was that during this attack, the occupiers fired on Babyn Yar, the Holocaust Memorial. "Who do you have to be to make such a place a target for a rocket?" You are killing Holocaust victims for the second time, "said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

To date, many districts of the capital have been destroyed. Damage was caused to Solomiansky, Darnytsky, Obolonsky, Desniansky, and other districts. The shelling does not stop.

ZHYTOMYR

It was relatively calm in Zhytomyr. Two days. On February 26, the first sabotage and shelling of nearby villages took place.

Over the next few days, the occupiers carried out several attacks: the area of the airport and the bus station, the kindergarten №32, and the military institute were damaged, 10 houses were burned in the area of Bohunia.

To date, the enemy has destroyed school No. 5, lyceum 25, and residential buildings on Saburova Street, significantly damaging the hospital and perinatal center, student dormitory, and "Izovat" plant, and blew up an oil depot.

In total, more than 35 educational institutions have been damaged in the Zhytomyr region.

KHARKIV

On February 24, 2022, Kharkiv woke up together with Kyiv. At about 5 AM, the occupiers began shelling the city. Quiet life here, as in the whole country, is over. On the night of February 26, enemy tanks entered the city. However, the boys and girls of the Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully neutralized them. Two days later, Kharkiv was shelled by "Grads". Dozens of people died as a result, including three children.

In March, the number of casualties only increased. The central Freedom Square and the City Council were destroyed by a rocket strike, Novobavarsky Avenue with apartment buildings, and the factory were hit.

In the Pivnichna Saltivka district alone, more than 40 high-rise buildings were set on fire, with more than 600 residential buildings destroyed. A hospital, more than 50 schools, medical institutions and maternity hospitals, Kharkiv National University, and the Assumption Cathedral were also shelled.

This shows us only one thing: the Russian occupiers have no principles, no honor, or any morality.

KHERSON

On the first day of the war, the residents of Kherson were awakened by an alarm clock that raised the inhabitants to their feet in an instant – explosions. Moreover, in the middle of the day, Russian troops were near the city, they damaged, or even destroyed, more than 200 houses, killed 6 people.

Once again, we see confirmation of the unscrupulousness of Russians as soldiers and as people. On the third day of the attack on Kherson, they shot and blew up an ambulance. The patient and the driver were burned alive; the paramedic was taken to hospital.

As of March 17, Tariysky and Shumensky districts, Kindiyka and Zabalka were affected in Kherson, the occupiers seized the river port and the railway station, they also fired on the premises of the Security Service of Ukraine and the City Hall, and damaged the building of the "Fabryka" shopping center.

Residents of Kherson have repeatedly rallied against Russian troops and their occupation. They are announcing their message to the whole world again and again: Kherson is Ukraine. And only so.

MARIUPOL

Mariupol is now our pain and our catastrophe. This city is one of the few that is suffering the most now and has taken the biggest brunt – strike on civilians.

Humanitarian aid cannot be brought here. Leaving home is life-threatening. Therefore, people continue to suffer from a lack of food, electricity, heat, and even drinking water.

As of March 24, more than 3000 people died here, and hundreds more are under numerous rubbles. And this is only official data. The city has already been destroyed by about 90%.

The Russian occupiers are increasingly showing the world and us what the phrase "wipe off the face of the earth" means.

People are buried here in mass graves. Because there is simply no other possibility.

There have been repeated attempts to create a "green corridor" from the city. Each time it ended in the same way – shelling of people and transport. For the first time, although only partially, it was possible on March 15. In total, more than 30,000 people have already managed to leave the besieged city.

We told only about the regional centers and about Mariupol - a big city where the situation is catastrophic. However, this list is incomplete. Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, and other regions were also affected. For more than 8 years, Donetsk and Luhansk regions have been holding off the offensive of Russian troops in Ukraine. Like Mariupol, not a single city here no longer physically exists.

Small towns and villages in the vicinity of regional centers are the ones that suffer the most. Moreover, to our great horror, this list and the number of destroyed cities, as well as those who died, is only increasing.

How did Lviv change during the war?

We used to see Lviv calm, atmospheric, with cozy cafés, but the war made its adjustments in the city’s life. During the war, the city became a humanitarian headquarters and home for many Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homes temporarily.

The city has enlisted 440 cultural and educational institutions and 85 religious organizations to provide shelter, free food, essentials, and psychological assistance to temporarily displaced persons.

The oldest part of Lviv is a UNESCO World Heritage Site therefore, the City Department of Historic Environment Protection is working to preserve the facades of historic buildings, architectural elements, sculptures and more.

Despite the war, Lviv continues to live, work, help and support the economy of our country. It brings together many caring people, volunteers and displaced persons who have one common goal - to WIN.
