Bryukhovychi Forest from the Riasne District Side

This majestic forest area attracts cycling enthusiasts, hikers, and those who love spending time outdoors with a picnic. There are designated spots for making campfires, so you can bring foldable picnic furniture, meat, vegetables, and enjoy a great weekend in nature.

Among locals, it’s popular to bring along balls, badminton sets, ultimate frisbee, and other gear for active games. The forest belt is located between Lviv and the village of Bryukhovychi. You can reach this natural area from the city center by public minibuses or by car — and along the way, you’ll discover unique trees and plants that make the forest special.

Pavilions with Grills by the Lake in Znesinnia Park

Znesinnia Park can sometimes feel quite wild, as it has few paved paths. However, it offers much more than just picnic opportunities — you can also enjoy a scenic walk featuring the lake, the 389-meter-high Lion’s Hill, the Folk Architecture and Rural Life Museum named after Klymentiy Sheptytsky (Skansen), a former bobsled track, and even a ski slope.

Near the lake, there’s a small beach and a designated picnic area with wooden pavilions where you can relax and prepare a barbecue. This is the only park in Lviv where open-fire picnics are allowed. The area is completely free to access.

To reach the picnic zone, enter the park from the side of the Staro-Znesennia Cemetery and follow the trail to the lake. You can also get there by descending the stairs from the base of Lysia Hora (Bald Mountain).

Chortovi Skeli (Devil’s Rocks) in the Vynnyky Forest Park

A great spot for a one-day getaway with a picnic. This area is rich in colorful nature and surrounded by local legends. At Chortovi Skeli, you can enjoy a camping or glamping weekend, have a picnic, go for an active hike, and—if you have the gear and the courage—try rock climbing or bouldering.

Organizing a barbecue here can be challenging, as the trail to the rocks is truly mountainous, and carrying all the necessary equipment requires some effort.

One of the key advantages of this location is its proximity—only 6 km from the center of Lviv. You can reach Chortovi Skeli either by public transport or by car, heading in the direction of Vynnyky.

Zashkiv Village, Zhovkva District

Just 20 km from the city, Zashkiv is a versatile nature escape perfect for many types of outdoor recreation. For a weekend getaway, you’ll find two key spots here — a lake and forested hills. It’s a great place for picnics, barbecues, fishing, camping, and spending quality time with family and friends.

There is also a wild beach by the lake, although swimming in this body of water is officially prohibited.

The area is free to access. You can get to this recreation spot in Zashkiv by taking the Lviv–Zavadiv minibus from Bus Station #2 (AS-2), the suburban Lviv–Rava-Ruska train, or by car.

Popular Picnic Lakes Outside of Lviv:

  • Sherwood Hotel & Recreation Complex in Dovhomostyska village, 38B Zelena St. (45 km from Lviv)
  • Charivna Dolyna Hotel & Restaurant Complex in Rodatychi village (30 km from Lviv)
  • Shuter Lake in Sukhovolia village (15 km from Lviv)
