Lviv Philharmonic has been located in the current building since 2009. The building itself was built a hundred years earlier, in 1907, for the Galician Musical Society. The author of the project is Vladyslav Sadlovskyi. The building is distinguished by ornamental decoration. Therefore, every visit to the Philharmonic in Lviv is an exciting journey into the world of professional music and art.
Lviv Philharmonic
The history of the Lviv Philharmonic began in 1902. At first, it functioned on the premises of the Count Skarbek Theatre (now the Maria Zankovetska Theatre). In 1933 the Philharmonic Orchestra was founded. Today the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Lviv Philharmonic is one of the oldest in Ukraine.
In 1939, the Philharmonic was granted the status of a state, and in 2017 - National. Since 2009, the Philharmonic has been located in the current building. In 2020, the Lviv Regional Council named the institution after Myroslav Skoryk.
Philharmonic building
The Philharmonic building was built in 1907 in the Secession style. It was built for the Galician Musical Society, designed by Vladyslav Sadlovskyi. The facade of the building is decorated with decorative elements. In particular, reliefs with musical instruments. The figures of swans by Petro Herasymovych tower over the building.
Inside, the Philharmonic has a complex structure. The concert hall is decorated with an ornamental stucco ceiling. The organ dates back to the nineteenth century. Previously it was used in the Dominican church.
Areas of activity
Solomia Krushelnytska, Oleksandr Myschukha, Richard Strauss, Volodymyr Ivasyuk, Bela Bartok, Borys Liatoshynskyi, Valentyn Silvestrov and others have performed on the Philharmonic stage. It has not only beautiful architecture but also excellent acoustics. There are halls for 500 and 300 visitors.
Concerts are regularly held in the Philharmonic, the institution is the organizer of festivals and competitions. These are "Virtuosos", "Music in Old Lviv", the International Competition of Ukrainian Romance named after Kvitka Cisyk, a musical marathon in memory of the Hero of Ukraine, opera singer Vasyl Slipak, etc. Philharmonic is not only classical music but also performances of jazz bands and folk ensembles.
