Requiem in C minor by Luigi Cherubini is a choral work composed in 1816.
It is a component of the Catholic mass for the dead and is considered one of the most powerful and emotionally stirring works in the requiem genre.
He dedicated his Cherubini Requiem to Louis XVI, this piece is to some extent universal, because musically it far exceeds the requirements of a church service. It somewhat resembles an ancient drama, and the chorus here resembles an opera - with movements, melodeclamation, dramatic pauses, mood changes, thematic contrast.
