Armenians have been living in Lviv for the longest time. In the 14th century, they began to build the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Church in the central part of the city. It remains active to this day.
At that time, the architecture and ensemble of the Armenian courtyard were being formed. The Armenian bank "Mons Pius" dates back to the 16th century. It is considered the oldest in the city. At the same time, the bell tower of the Armenian church appeared, and a bit later – the palace of the Armenian archbishops. In the 18th century, a column with the figure of St. Christopher was erected in the courtyard. It was built in honour of the Armenian judge Christopher Augustinovich – a well-known benefactor.

The Armenian courtyard is a quiet and cosy place, with a chamber atmosphere and an interesting and unforgettable location. At the same time, many details can tell more about the inhabitants of ancient Lviv. It's like a quest room here!
Pay attention to the slabs under your feet – this place was an Armenian cemetery. The figure of the Virgin Mary, on the side of Virmenska Street, decorated the now non-existent Krakow Gate. Worth seeing is the wooden chapel "Golgotha" in the courtyard of the temple, which dates back to the 18th century.
On the opposite side of it, there is a sculpture of Jesus carrying the Cross. In this space, there are authentic bas-reliefs and votive crosses of khachkars. On the north side of the church, where once there were monastery premises, we will find one of the oldest sculptures preserved in Lviv – Jesus with Thomas the Unbeliever.
