The Beilis case is a story about the accusation of a Jewish man, Mendel Beilis, of murdering a Christian boy, allegedly for ritual purposes, which unfolded in 1911-1913 in Kyiv during the Russian Empire.
In the play, using the story of Mendel Beilis as an example, we look at how tsarist Russia defined Jews as its "objective enemy" 110 years ago in order to incite social confrontation for political purposes. Russia uses the same repressive methods today, implementing its imperial policy through the war against Ukraine and Ukrainians. Each and every one of us is experiencing this right now. Therefore, we tell the story of Baylis through the actresses' and actors' own experiences.
The key medium is voice and sound, the audio sequence is broadcast to the audience through headphones. Thus, we explore how the way of listening clarifies statements and influences the perception of facts and events.
A documentary play created as part of the international project Face to Faith, dedicated to the topic of faith and its importance for society today.
