DISCOVER “QIRIM” FOR YOURSELF
The week dedicated to the Crimean Tatar culture will last at the Dovgi Buhrlyve Oplesky facility, located at 3 Sichovy Striltsiv, from May 16 to 21.
Such dates were not chosen by chance. May 18 is the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Deportation, which began at 3 a.m. on May 18, 1944 and ended on May 20. 32,000 NKVD employees were involved in the operation. Then, during May 18 and the following few days, more than 191,000 people were deported to Central Asia and some northeastern regions of Russia. According to various estimates, from a third to almost a half of the Crimean Tatar population of Crimea died as a result of the deportation.
