Closing 120 season

We invite you to the last concert of the 120th season! The Lviv National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the principal conductor, Theodore Kuchar, will perform works by Myroslav Skoryk and Maurice Ravel. The programme is also dedicated to a significant date in the history of Ukrainian music – Myroslav Skoryk’s birthday.

Despite the criminal actions of the aggressor country, the 120th season was a life-changing one for the Lviv National Philharmonic. In autumn, the  Symphony Orchestra celebrated its anniversary with a large-scale programme. Despite the bombings and blackouts, the Philharmonic invited listeners to its hall every week, and the artists and ensembles of the Philharmonic gave even more emotions, talent, hope, and introduced Ukrainian music to listeners from all over the world. We are grateful to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for every performance that occured.

In conclusion, the Lviv National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra prepared a grand programme. According to musicologists, Myroslav Skoryk’s Cello Concerto No. 1 is one of the best Ukrainian works of the late twentieth century. Its deep drama, emotional tension and jewellery use of timbres are impressive. This music is truly capable of touching the most secret strings of the human soul. Myroslav Skoryk’s Suite after Lesya Ukrainka’s drama “The Stone Host” reveals other colours of the Maestro’s talent – the extraordinary theatricality of his music, themes and melodies that remain in the memory for a long time. The programme will be complemented by ballet suite “Daphnis and Chloe”. Ravel envisioned his work as “a vast musical fresco, less thoughtful of archaism than of fidelity to the Greece of my dreams, which identifies willingly with that imagined and depicted by late-18th-century French painters….”

We invite you to share with us the last evening of the 120th season, which has already got remained in history!
