Cheerful, magical, with a real Hutsul flavour and magic of ancient traditions, carolers - we invite you to the Christmas holidays the Philharmonic! Here, carolers will sing ancient ritual carols ... it is a carol-fest, an event that everyone should see! The participants of the Christmas event are local residents of the village of Kryvorivnya!
"On Sunday, the sun rose early, the cherry orchards cheered up..." - these are the first lines from a carol that has been heard for more than a hundred years in the village of Kryvorivnya in the Hutsul region. The tradition of carols has been part of the Christmas holidays since pre-Christian times and it continues uninterrupted to this day. Neither conversion to Christianity, nor Soviet bans could break this continuity of tradition - men's singing and the ritual of carols in this village in the middle of the Carpathian Mountains.
Hutsul Christmas has always fascinated me with its colour and at the same time meditative carols, which sometimes can last half an hour or even more. Therefore, it is not only entertainment - to go carolling - but quite hard work. Therefore, the process stretches over all winter holidays - from Christmas to the Presentation of the Lord. And Hutsul carols penetrate into the soul and stay there forever, even if you hear them only once.
