Working Hours

The Historical and Local Lore Museum is located in a cozy house in the center of Vynnyky town near the tobacco factory. The establishment's history began over thirty years ago, and its latest chapter started in 2019. That year, the museum underwent a complete re-exposition with the inclusion of modern interactive technologies.

The museum has four exhibition halls, which display a wide range of findings in chronological order, from the Paleolithic era to the 18th century. The exhibition focuses on archaeological discoveries from the Roman period. The museum is proud of its artifacts found in a burial ground in Kariv, Lviv region. The permanent exhibition includes household items made of clay and bronze, jewelry, weapons and their elements, delicate glassware that is over two thousand years old, and even a genuine Viking sword.

The halls are equipped with modern audio guides, have quality lighting, and digital stations with prompts about particular exhibits.

To immerse visitors in the atmosphere, educational films are shown that tell about the various intricacies of everyday life in a particular historical period. Among the souvenirs, you will find both a postcard and a clay copy of a Trypillian culture figurine.

Scientific museum staff will help you understand everything.

Prehistoric smiley.

This is a discovery from a settlement in the area of "Lazki". The object belongs to the Neolithic era (approximately 5,000 years BCE) and is a fragment of a household calendar, which means it once had a ritual character. Solar symbols are depicted on both sides of this object, one of which resembles a smiley face. This is why the exhibit was named the smiley and has already become a symbol of Vinnytsia and the museum in particular.

Royal Cauldron

In fact, it is the burial urn of the king of the Suebi (a Germanic tribe). The suspensions - attachments - depicting the faces of Suebian warriors are well-preserved. A characteristic feature of the free population of this tribe was a hairstyle in the form of a knot, which can be seen depicted on the attachments. The discovery is dated to the last third of the 1st century - the end of the 2nd century AD.

Viking sword.

This weapon belonged to a member of the Varangian Guard around the 10th century. The Varangians were professional soldiers who were hired by the Rus' princes for service. The sword bears traces of silver and gold on the hilt, suggesting that its owner was a person of high status. Perhaps he was even a gift to a Rus' prince.
