CAN THE PRACTICE OF PRESERVING MEMORY BE CONSIDERED ART? THIS QUESTION INVITES YOU TO THE OPENING OF "MEMORY OF THE ONE WHO REMEMBERS" – A NEW EXHIBITION AT JAM FACTORY ART CENTER.

The exhibition features the reconstruction of the Lamakh family residence, videos by Anna Daučíková and Geta Brătescu, unique ceramic sculptures by Ada Rybachuk and Volodymyr Melnychenko, paintings by Kateryna Bilokur, and graphics by Pavlo Makov. Additionally, it showcases tapestries, drawings, textile and glass objects by artists from Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine.

The prologue to the exhibition is the life and creative practice of Ukrainian artist Alina Lamakh, a tapestry artist and compiler of the legendary "Book of Schemes" by the key Ukrainian Sixtier Valeriy Lamakh. Reinterpreted by curators Mariya Lanko and Liza Herman, the story of Alina Mykolaivna sparked reflections on suppressed identities, hidden lives, and the (artistic) means of their return to public heritage. "Memory of the One Who Remembers" also offers a critical view of gender, national, and genre stereotypes and hierarchies that prevail in Ukrainian and global art.
