Try out an exciting quest about the Shevchenko Scientific Society!
We invite you to take this educational route through the old city of Lviv and celebrate the 150th anniversary of the legendary organization known as Shevchenko Scientific Society!
During the 2-hour-long quest, you’ll learn more about Ukrainian history: How did Ukrainians live under two different empires at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century? What threats existed for the future of the Ukrainian nation and the Ukrainian language in particular? Why did the influencers, patrons and public figures of that time establish a non-commercial organization named after Taras Shevchenko? And why was it later renamed to “scientific”?
In its heyday, the Shevchenko Scientific Society was a community uniting the most progressive and powerful Ukrainians of the time. Have you heard about the Shevchenko Society’s “golden trinity”: Ivan Franko, Mykhailo Hrushevskyi and Volodymyr Hnatyuk? During the quest you’ll have a chance to “meet” all three of them, as well as other outstanding figures from Ukrainian history; visit Shevchenko Society’s places in Lviv; learn more about Society’s achievements and true “treasures” gathered by this organization.
History repeats. So, we encourage you to discover more about past events and historical characters to better understand the current developments in Ukraine.

To pass the quest you need to:
- Install free mobile app WalQlike: Android / iOS
- Plan 2 hours of your time for a walk. Gather your family or friends to pass Quest as a team or enjoy it on your own
- Choose the quest about Shevchenko Scientific Society from the routes available for Lviv (there are 10 of them in the list)
- Start your walk at the Heavenly Hundred Memorial.
- Pass the route according to the WalQlike app instructions. At each location you’ll get interesting information about Society’s activities and its most famous members, as well as interactive tasks to complete.
- Quest’s content is aimed at a broad audience, starting from teenagers, and is available in Ukrainian and English. The route length is 4.3 km.
