About the theater
The Lviv Puppet Theater began its work on April 15, 1946. The first artistic director of the institution was Antonina Matskevich, a student of Lesya Kurbas. The theater's current repertoire is represented by productions for both children and adults. These are performances of a very diverse format - from classic fairy tales to social or educational projects. Over the past few years, the theater has been actively working on its new face and new areas of activity. A new type of productions appeared - educational plays, baby plays for the smallest, and the "Evening Stage" for adults began to develop. In general, the theater now works for a wide family audience (both children and their parents), and not only for preschoolers.
The theater actively tours, participates in regional, all-Ukrainian and international events and festivals, both in Ukraine and abroad. The theater's activities are expanding at the expense of projects implemented with the help of grants from various domestic and foreign cultural funds. The development of digital content became a separate direction of the theater's project activities with the beginning of the pandemic. Thanks to the involved grant funds, video versions of the theater's best performances were created, which are shown in the "online hall" on the theater's website.
An important part of the theater's current activity is a diverse program of accompanying events. These are regular festive events for communication with the audience outside the auditorium. This is a program of educational events and master classes dedicated to traditional culture. These are also social projects with schoolchildren, programs of readings of modern children's drama, a series of video lectures by experts, dedicated to important topics raised in theater performances.
